Free Friday Fiesta - February 8
On the 2nd Friday of each month - it is a Fiesta!
The second Friday of each month is Fiesta time! Fiesta nights include social competitive tennis, fun tennis games, instruction to both adults and juniors, and food & beverages. It's a great way to spend a Friday with your tennis friends, or to meet some new ones. This event is open to members and non-members, so feel free to invite anyone you like, even if they're not a tennis player, yet. We have instructional courts for the newbies, and a court for kids. After a brief hiatus we are once again offering massage here at Shellaberger. We have two great massage therapists on staff that are ready to meet all your massage needs! Monique Gomez who has been with us over the last year will be joined by Sandy Johnson to kick off our new massage service. Tennis Experience is for you! tennis Experience is a fun-filled three week program that gives you a 1-hour group lesson each week and three freebies on top. Tennis Experience classes are for anyone who loves tennis or wants to get started playing. The classes start January 14 and run throughout the winter and spring. Girls inc. of Santa Fe will be hosting "Serving Up Love" a fundraiser to benefit their great organization at Shellaberger on February 9, 2013. The event will feature family fun, skill challenges, exhibition matches, and refreshments. The event is only $10 per person and children under 17 are free with a paid adult. Tournament Re-Cap
The tournament has now wrapped up and 2013 was another great year for the Southwest Section Indoor championships. This year we had a total of 95 players making up for over 100 total entries take part in the tournament. The tournament field included players from Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Ohio, and Texas.
Over 150 fans came out to watch the great action on the courts this year and they were treated to some great tennis. The highlight of the event was a tight back and forth battle between Rocky Royer and Tim Garcia in the Men's 55 Semi-finals. Royer eventually won that match 5-7,6-4,6-3. The Men's 35 Singles final did not disappoint as well and we saw Richard Benvin of Denver defeat Amit Garg of Albuquerque 6-3,4-6,6-1 in an exciting encounter. On the women's side the the 35 doubles final was a hard fought affair featuring Amy Badger and Susanne Korsan of Albuquerque against Andie Crosby of Santa Fe and Dora Kliesen of Los Alamos. Andie and Dora re-grouped after losing the first set 6-2 to win the second set 6-0, eventually Amy and Susanne prevailed winning a long third set 7-6.
This years event was a huge success thanks to all the players and the fans. We also want to thank our sponsors Active Forever, The Santa Fe Show, and the Verve Gallery of Photography. Their support of the tournament allowed us to host a first class event.
